A Texas communications provider was growing contract by contract, and every new customer needed more compute and storage. Its backups also ran on an outdated tool. So Weaver planned a commercial data center expansion on the Dell platform the team already knew, with modern backup and cloud tiering built in.
The challenge: growth that outpaced the infrastructure
The provider is a Texas-based communications company that serves county and local government customers. New contracts have driven fast growth. As a result, the business needs infrastructure that can scale quickly to meet customer demand.
However, the existing environment could not keep pace. Each new contract required more storage and compute, and capacity had to be ready in time to meet service levels. In addition, backups relied on an antiquated tool with limited security. The team needed data protection that was more scalable, more secure and simpler to run.
Our approach to a commercial data center expansion
Weaver worked with the provider to design a refresh that put scalability first. It also needed to reduce management overhead and modernize backup. Since the provider already ran on Dell, we chose to build on that foundation instead of introducing a new platform.
Our long partnership with Dell helped here, and so did our trusted advisor role with the provider. Because we knew the environment well, the commercial data center expansion felt like a natural extension of what the team already used. That also let us move quickly once the plan was set.
What Weaver delivered
- Five Dell VxRail VP-760 nodes. We added core compute and storage so the provider can support new contracts as they come on.
- Dell PowerProtect DD6400. We replaced the outdated backup solution with a modern backup and recovery appliance.
- PowerProtect Data Manager. We deployed PPDM software to manage and simplify data protection.
- Wasabi cloud storage tiering. We added a cloud tier for extra flexibility alongside PowerProtect.
- Growth planning. We sized the design so capacity can keep pace with each new customer contract.

Results: a commercial data center expansion with room to grow
Today, the provider has the compute and storage it needs to support new customer contracts. Its backup strategy is simpler, too, because PowerProtect and Wasabi now work together. The project finished with no reported delays or challenges.
The commercial data center expansion also reduced the load on internal IT. Finally, the business now runs on a scalable architecture that grows with demand, using tools its team already knows.
“This was about building on what already worked. We helped them scale without disruption, and gave them better data protection in the process.”

Why growing providers plan a data center expansion early
When growth comes contract by contract, infrastructure often lags behind demand. Meanwhile, backup tools chosen years earlier stop fitting the business. For that reason, expanding a platform the team already knows is often the fastest, lowest-risk way to add capacity. Pairing on-premises backup from Dell with a cloud tier also keeps data protection flexible as the business grows.
