The Customer

Muleshoe ISD is a 3A school district with just over 1400 students that is tucked away in the small community of Muleshoe, Texas, about 70 miles west of Lubbock, Texas. Home of the fighting Mules, Muleshoe ISD is a National Blue Ribbon Award winner and boasts an “A” rating by the Texas Education Agency.

The Right Time: The Challenges of IT Management for a Small School District

Being the technology director for a school district is a difficult job. With the ever-growing reliance on technology, some may consider it one of the most important roles within a school system. That responsibility is even more compounded when the technology director makes up the whole of the IT department. That is exactly where Susan Hinojosa, of Muleshoe ISD, found herself in the summer of 2022 when her team of 3 turned into a team of 1.

Even with a team of 3, the workload was barely sustainable, but when her 2 technicians left to pursue other opportunities, Susan was faced with the daunting task of making sure that everything technology-related was up and running by the start of the school year, in just a few short months.

With the mounting pressure and the growing list of tasks, Susan called in the forces at Weaver Technologies to help bring Muleshoe ISD up-to-speed.

The Right IT Solution: Weaver Technologies Steps in to Help Muleshoe ISD With Upgrades and Support

Susan knew that her network was in desperate need of some upgrades but was struggling to find the time to tackle the issue while also dealing with interruptions from emails, phone calls, helpdesk requests, and more.

The Weaver team moved swiftly to help alleviate some of the burden Susan was feeling. They brought in a network architect to run a Microsoft Active Directory Assessment to review operational processes, the active directory database, and general network hygiene. All servers were then updated using Microsoft Security Best Practices and Dell VxRail hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) was utilized to help with data protection and virtualization.

The Right Reason: On-Site IT Support to Ensure a Smooth and Successful Start to the School Year

Even with all of Muleshoe’s systems up and running, the Weaver team knew the final days leading up to the start of the school year are normally full of issues and requests as teachers and administrators return to the campuses to make last-minute preparations. Determined to ensure Susan didn’t have to get through this alone, they dispatched IT Technician Max Aliyev to set up shop and work side-by-side with Susan.

Max cleared helpdesk tickets, imaged computers, performed troubleshooting on classroom devices, and anything else that Susan needed help with to ensure that day one of the school year was focused on welcoming the kids back to school instead of putting out IT fires across the district.

For Muleshoe, it was the Right Solution, at the Right Time, for the Right Reason. That’s the Weaver Way.
