A Texas school district had filled its Dell Data Domain backup appliances, and backups had started to fail. Instead of replacing everything, Weaver delivered a school district backup expansion that added capacity, rebalanced existing systems and moved one unit into Dell Cyber Vault. The work took about a month.
The challenge: full appliances and failing backups
This Texas public school district supports thousands of students and staff across multiple campuses. Its IT team runs the secure infrastructure behind digital learning, administrative systems and data protection.
However, the district’s Dell Data Domain appliances had reached capacity. As a result, backup jobs were failing, which put data protection at risk. The district also had no expansion strategy, so it lacked room for future growth as data volumes kept rising.
Our approach to a school district backup expansion
Weaver has worked with this district for years and already knew its disaster recovery setup well. So we did not start from a blank page. Instead, we looked at what the district already owned and asked where each system could do the most good.
The plan was simple. First, add capacity where the district needed it. Next, renew the systems that still had value. Then, reassign appliances between production and DR. Finally, place one unit in Dell Cyber Vault for an isolated layer of protection.
What Weaver delivered
- Capacity expansion. We expanded the district’s Dell DD9410 and DD9400 systems to give backups room to run.
- System renewals. We renewed the existing Data Domain units so the district kept getting value from them.
- Smarter placement. We redistributed appliances across the production and disaster recovery environments.
- Dell Cyber Vault. We moved one unit into Cyber Vault, which adds an isolated copy of backup data.
- On-schedule delivery. We resolved a few small rack component mix-ups quickly and kept the project on track.

Results: a school district backup expansion with room to grow
Today, the district has the backup capacity it needs for growing data protection demands. Because backups no longer fail for lack of space, the risk of data loss is lower. In addition, Dell Cyber Vault strengthens backup security with an isolated copy.
Since the school district backup expansion built on existing systems, daily operations continued with minimal change. The district gained immediate impact and future flexibility without an infrastructure overhaul.
“We were able to give them more backup capacity and put one of their DDs into Cyber Vault. Fast, secure and scalable. No guesswork, just real improvement.”

A common challenge in Texas K-12
District data grows every year. Backup systems sized for yesterday fill up quietly until jobs start to fail. Often, the most practical fix is not a rip and replace. Instead, a school district backup expansion that rebalances existing Dell appliances and adds an isolated copy can protect the budget and the data at the same time.
