A Texas public accounting firm had already bought VMware Horizon, but it would not integrate cleanly with its applications and network. Weaver assessed the accounting firm VDI environment and confirmed Horizon was the right fit. Then we made it work, without buying anything new.
The challenge: a VDI investment that wasn’t paying off
The firm is a highly regarded public accounting practice with several locations across Texas. It serves clients in many industries and puts exceptional service first.
The firm knew it needed to modernize and centralize its infrastructure. It had already invested in VMware Horizon for virtual desktops. However, the software would not integrate smoothly with the firm’s applications and network. That mattered, because service quality depended on staff reaching their applications and data reliably. The firm also had sensitive client data to protect.
Our approach: assess the accounting firm VDI before buying anything
The firm’s CIO reached out to Weaver for help with virtual desktops on Horizon. So Weaver assigned solutions architect Michael Payne to assess the environment and find the best path forward.
His evaluation showed that the Horizon software the firm already owned was the right fit. In other words, the gap was the integration, not the product. Instead of proposing a new platform, we built a plan to make the existing accounting firm VDI investment work. Work began in July 2022 with a thorough assessment.
What Weaver delivered
- Horizon environment review. A detailed assessment pinpointed the integration issues and confirmed Horizon fit the firm’s needs.
- Integration plan. We mapped out how to resolve each compatibility and performance problem.
- Horizon integration. We integrated VMware Horizon (now Omnissa Horizon) with the firm’s applications and network.
- Performance tuning. We worked through the compatibility and performance issues that had held the rollout back.
- Training and support. We trained the firm’s IT staff so the team could run the environment with confidence.

Results: accounting firm VDI that works from any location
Weaver resolved the immediate issues and streamlined the virtual desktop rollout. Today, employees reach the applications and data they need from any location. Meanwhile, security and data protection measures help safeguard sensitive client information.
Because the firm kept the software it already owned, the project saved both time and money. The firm’s feedback also highlighted its satisfaction with the efficiency, security and cost-effectiveness of the accounting firm VDI.
A common challenge in professional services
Firms often invest in the right software and then struggle to fit it into their applications and network. Before replacing a platform, an objective assessment can show whether the real gap is the product or the integration. For example, Horizon, now part of Omnissa, can deliver secure desktops to every office once it fits the environment around it.
