A Texas school district had a data center past its useful life and had never had a disaster recovery site. Weaver delivered a K-12 data center refresh with a matching DR site and Druva cloud backup. Then we worked with Dell Financial Services so the full plan fit the district’s budget.

What We Did
  • Replaced end-of-life data center equipment
  • Built a DR site that mirrors the primary environment
  • Added Druva cloud backup as an off-site copy
  • Designed the protection around a 3-2-1 strategy
  • Worked with Dell Financial Services on budget-fit financing
  • Planned each phase around the school calendar

The challenge: an aging data center and no place to recover

This Texas public school district depends on its technology infrastructure to support operations across its campuses. However, its data center had aged past its useful life and was due for replacement. The old equipment posed a reliability risk to the systems staff use every day.

Just as important, the district had no dedicated disaster recovery environment. That gap grew more serious each year, because teaching and operations relied more and more on technology. Still, any answer had to work within real district budgets.

Our approach: a K-12 data center refresh, not just a hardware swap

Weaver designed a complete refresh that went beyond replacing old equipment. The plan paired a modern primary environment with a matching DR site. We also added Druva cloud backup to complete a layered data protection strategy.

Next, we worked with Dell Financial Services to structure financing that fit the district’s budget cycle. As a result, the district could take on the full solution instead of a compromised one. We then scoped the work around the school calendar and coordinated with the district through each phase.

What Weaver delivered

  • Primary data center. We replaced the end-of-life environment with modern infrastructure, backed by Weaver professional services.
  • Matching DR site. We built a recovery site that mirrors production, so the district has a true recovery option for the first time.
  • Druva cloud backup. We added a reliable off-site copy that completes the layered approach.
  • 3-2-1 strategy. We kept three copies of data on two media types, with one copy off-site.
  • Budget-fit financing. We worked with Dell Financial Services to align payments with the district’s needs.

Results of the K-12 data center refresh

Today, the district runs a fully refreshed data center on modern infrastructure. For the first time, it also has a dedicated DR site built to mirror the primary environment. In addition, Druva cloud backup adds an off-site layer of protection.

Together, the 3-2-1 approach gives the district several ways to recover if an outage hits. The K-12 data center refresh left the district in a much stronger position, and the financing kept it within budget.

A common challenge in Texas K-12

Many districts refresh aging equipment on schedule but have never had a separate place to recover. A K-12 data center refresh is often the most practical moment to close that gap. Cloud backup from Druva adds an off-site copy, and financing can also help the full solution fit the budget.
