A two-month pandemic closure put the future of an independent kitchen shop in question. Its old retail POS system could not support online sales. So Weaver helped the owners compare five options, launch an online store and load more than 16,000 items.

The challenge: a thriving shop, suddenly closed

The store is an independent shop on a historic main street in the Texas Hill Country. It offers a wide collection of cookware, kitchen gadgets and unique culinary finds. Business was strong. Then the pandemic forced the shop to close for two months.

The owners needed to adapt quickly to keep operating, and selling online was the clear answer. However, their old retail POS system was never built for online business. So they asked Weaver to assess their setup and talk through options for an e-commerce site.

Our approach: compare options before choosing a retail POS system

Weaver did not start with a product. First, we assessed the store’s existing infrastructure and identified its critical needs. Next, we reviewed five different POS systems. We weighed each one on budget, functionality, bandwidth, availability and security.

Then we built the solution around the option that fit best, including support for online sales. We also developed the e-commerce website, so the new POS and the online store worked together from day one. That way, the owners never had to guess at technology choices.

What Weaver delivered

  • Infrastructure assessment. We reviewed the store’s current systems and identified what the business needed to sell online.
  • POS selection and setup. After comparing five systems, we implemented a new POS that supports online sales.
  • E-commerce website. We built the online store to work with the new POS from the start.
  • Inventory upload. Our team helped code and upload more than 16,000 items, so the full catalog went online.
  • Training and support. We trained staff on the new system and stayed on for ongoing support and consultation.

Results: a retail POS system that grew the business

The new retail POS system gave the store an online presence, better inventory management and improved reporting. As a result, revenue grew 30% despite the pandemic.

When the shop reopened, a steady stream of foot traffic returned. In addition, online sales now reach customers around the world. Since Weaver handled training and inventory, the owners could stay focused on running their business.

Why independent retailers outgrow their POS

Many independent retailers run on in-store systems that were never meant for online sales. When circumstances change quickly, that gap becomes urgent. Choosing the right retail POS system and getting inventory online are what make a fast pivot possible. For that reason, we compare options on fit and budget first. As a Dell Titanium Partner, Weaver also brings the same careful approach to the hardware behind a growing store.
